The first of January 2024 marked the end of our 60 year celebrations, a year which saw us nominate Women’s Work as our chosen charity of 2023, win the Make UK, Midlands and the East, Manufacturing award, host a 60th birthday party, and much more.
Since our incorporation in 1963, the business has grown year on year, and we market and distribute products in over 50 countries worldwide, employing around 180 people at our purpose-built premises in Derby. This in itself is a huge achievement, but having a tenure of 60 years, is even more impressive.
Thanks to the hard work of our colleagues, past and present, we are still thriving as one of the leading, employee owned, manufacturer and distributer of medical devices.
We want to specifically look back on how we celebrated this terrific milestone during 2023, and how we have developed our CSR initiatives, to truly bring to life our Purpose Statement,

Rebrand – 1st Jan
From humble beginnings in 1963, we are delighted to have stood the test of time, championing UK Manufacturing and supporting the NHS by being a key supplier, all from our HQ in the centre of Derby.
To acknowledge the significant achievement, we launched a celebratory re-brand, with new logo that encapsulated the anniversary, and new tagline.
Elevator Speech – 16th Jan
We created Our Elevator Speech at the beginning of last year – a video showcasing the full extent of the work we undertake, and how we operate differently to our competitors. It’s a good overview of what makes us stand out from the crowd!
When you have been in business as long as we have, you often take for granted not everyone knows the full extent of the work you do, and the markets you operate in. Our Value Proposition is also fluid, as we look to maintain and grow our value adding partnerships. With a straightforward proposition, our customers, suppliers, and colleagues can be informed with what they should expect from us as a business.
Commemorative Newsletter – 16th Feb
Back in February, we produced a commemorative newsletter, packed full of stories and images from employees across our 60 years, for people to enjoy a trip down memory lane, as well as our plan and vision, for the future.
This newsletter is open for anyone to view, to really get an insight into how far we have come over the years.
Our founder, Ivor Shaw, displayed a true passion for innovation, and improving people’s lives’ all those years ago, and we are delighted that this innovation, and focus on healthcare, remains core to our business principles to this day.
60th Party – 22nd June
As well as thanking all customers for their loyalty over the years, we hosted and additional employee celebration evening, our 60th Party. Held at the Distillery in the heart of Derby, we celebrated with food, drinks, a photobooth, and dancing!
Alongside the party, in celebration of EO Day, we made the decision to close our doors the day after to allow our colleagues to spend quality time with their loved ones and recharge their batteries, knowing that their commitment to Pennine is valued and respected.
We believe that investing in the well-being of our team ultimately benefits the company, as well as our much-valued customers. We are encouraging all colleagues to take this day to relax, rejuvenate, and cherish the moments that matter most.
Long Service Awards – 31st July
We were proud to, once again, award our Long Service Awards to members of staff that have been representing Pennine for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years.
These achievements are great testament to our colleagues, and the business, with our average staff turnover rate sitting at around 12 years.
Our employees are the heart of our organisation and are vital to the long-term success of the business. We put our employees at the centre of everything we do and it’s great to celebrate staff who have dedicated so much to the company.
Therefore, alongside the awards, each Long Service Awardee will receive a special lunch with our Senior Leadership Team.
Commercial Partnerships Launch – 18th August
We pride ourselves on our innovative and responsive approach to Commercial Partnerships. With over 60 years of experience in medical device manufacturing and product innovation, we possess a wealth of expertise to offer companies seeking a value-adding partnership. That is why we are proud to introduce ourselves as your ideal commercial partner.
Our focus lies in three specific service offerings: Medical Device Packaging, Kit Assembly, and Contract Manufacturing Services.
We also offer our Triple S Guarantee—Security of Supply, Safety, and Sustainability—further cementing our position as a trusted partner for businesses seeking strong collaborations with a UK manufacturer.
Pennine Pd-m Collaboration – 14th Sept
We were also pleased to announce our collaboration with Pd-m, enabling us to reach our key stone priority of Net-Zero.
As one of the UK’s leading, employee owned, medical manufacturers, we constantly maintain the key values of Protecting Life, Empowering Colleagues, and Enriching Communities.
We are committed to addressing the Net Zero and sustainability challenges set by the NHS and wider health technology community.
Manufacturing Day – 2nd Oct
As a UK manufacturing SME in the heart of Derby, we believe that it is of the utmost importance to make an appearance in the community to talk about what we do, how we do it, and how people can get involved – to bring alive the Derby spirit.
Thanks to the cooperation of some of our local schools, we had the opportunity to celebrate Manufacturing Day by visiting both, White Cross Nursery, and Horizons Sixth Form. It was a great experience that allowed us to connect with the potential future innovators within our community.
Make UK Awards Win – 8th November
As one of the UK’s leading, employee owned, medical device manufacturers, we were delighted to celebrate our win of the prestigious Make UK Midlands & East of England Manufacturing Matters Award for 2023.
The award was developed to recognise a company that demonstrates exceptional adaptability and resilience to impact their business and improve lives and society.
This is a special and very important achievement for Pennine, with our 60 years history, and our clearly defined values and purpose statement.
Medica – 13th-16th November
We took our 60th celebrations all the way to Düsseldorf in Germany! With bubbles on tap, we hosted a large gathering at our stand at Medica 2023 to reminisce about our history, including 20 years of attending Medica.
It was great to celebrate with customers new and old, and we are so grateful to everyone who attended.
The day ended with a presentation from our CEO, Graeme Cameron, championing UK Manufacturing and Pennine’s future direction, to a packed out audience at the ABHI Pavilion.
History is importance to us, and we were delighted to end our 60th celebrations alongside our customers, and partners, who have helped us get where we are today.
