The Veress Needle is designed to introduce or remove gas from the peritoneal cavity as a therapeutic or surgical/radiological procedural method.

It is often inserted into the peritoneal cavity for the purpose of insufflation to establish pneumoperitoneum prior to abdominal endoscopy.
